Water Main Break Repairs on Merritt Avenue N.E. Scheduled for Next Wednesday

The City of North Bend will repair a water main break on Merritt Avenue N.E. next Wednesday, May 2. Water will be temporarily shut off for repairs from 9:00 a.m. to approximately 12:30 p.m.

The outage will affect around 150 residences in the Silver Creek neighborhood.

A water main broke the morning of Tuesday, April 24 on Merritt Ave NE between NE Sixth Street and NE Eighth St. The break was repaired that afternoon, but the same water main broke again later that evening. The City’s Public Works water crew performed a temporary repair of the water main that evening. However, a permanent repair is needed to reduce the risk of another break.

Because many of the existing water valves in the Silver Creek neighborhood are approximately 50 years old, some are no longer functioning properly. In an emergency, this requires the water crew to shut off water to a larger area than would otherwise be necessary. The City is beginning to evalutate a water valve replacement program.

Please see the attached map of the anticipated outage area to see if you will be affected.

The City apologizes for the inconvenience and loss of service, and will work as quickly and safely as possible to fully restore service.
