Trail Youth Coffee Home Celebrates Opening with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Trail Youth Coffee Home has much to celebrate. North Bend’s newest coffee shop celebrated their grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, June 26 to a crowded house of friends, family, local business owners, dignitaries and, of course, local youth.

The Trail Youth is a local non-profit organization seeking to build bridges between youth ages 13-19, and the many resources available to them. Josh and Krisin Zuray co-founded The Trail Youth and together with Tonya Guinn and Wendy Laxton, decided to take it to the next level. They opened Trail Youth Coffee Home on June 13.

The coffee shop, located at 226 East North Bend Way, offers most any coffee drink and donuts. Thanks to help and support from friends and family and to a complete interior remodel by Facebook’s Returning the Favor, with host Mike Rowe, they were able to open a year earlier than anticipated.

This brings us to another cause for celebration. Trail Youth Coffee Home was featured on an episode of Returning the Favor, which aired on June 25th. View the entire episode here: Returning the Favor: Grounds of Love.

The Trail Youth organization first began in Issaquah, when Kristin Zuray spent time with homeless young adults on the Rainier Trail, serving them donuts, coffee and conversation, getting to know them on a more personal level.

These experiences led them to open the trunk of their car and serve the youth and young adults, from varied backgrounds, mochas and lattes. Over the course of two years, the trail became a cleaner community space.

“People felt safe again,” says Kristen. “It was neat being able to see kids from all walks of life getting together.”

The goal for The Trail Youth is to earn trust, restore self-worth and connect the kids with resources they need, when they’re ready to move forward.

The Trail Youth Coffee Home is “a hub of healing,” Zuray says. “We want to connect our community to the youth, and the youth to our community.”

Trail Youth Coffee Home is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the general public and 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. for youth. To learn more about The Trail Youth, visit http://www.trailyouth.com/.
