It's that time of year... the leaves have all fallen. If you're like many homeowners who use a leaf blower to maintain your yard, the City is offering a friendly reminder that leaves should not be blown into streets and/or piled curbside.
Public Works crews do use street sweeper vehicles to clean and maintain North Bend roadways, but they are not equipped to handle large piles of leaves that crews were finding in some neighborhoods earlier this week.
Leaves can cause street sweepers to clog - requiring expensive repairs - if they drive over these piles., so city sweeping vehicles will bypass these piles as needed. Curbside leaves can also clog storm drains, causing street flooding - especially during heavy rain events.
Residents are encouraged to blow/rake leaves into piles on their property and then dispose in yard waste containers.
While the City realizes the wind will inevitably be responsible for some amount of leaves in roadways, it thanks residents in advance for their efforts to not add to those totals.
