Hello North Bend residents.
I hope this Thanksgiving finds you and your families healthy and happy. This holiday is not what many of us had imagined. In a season when extended families come together and reconnect, the pandemic continues, and we are being asked to gather virtually rather than partake in annual in-person gatherings. I sincerely hope you can safely connect with family and friends – in small gatherings, virtually or even with just a simple phone call. Connections are vital as we head into month 9 of the pandemic.
In a challenge-filled year like 2020, it’s often easy to let the negative set in, but I hope each one of you finds joy this holiday season and remembers the things you are thankful for - even if it’s as simple as a smile and chat with your favorite grocery store checker or barista.
I am thankful to live in this City and call it home. North Bend defines community. I’ve seen many acts of kindness and selfless giving throughout our small town: neighbors helping neighbors; community organizations with simple missions to promote kindness and provide food; and businesses donating even as their sales have declined.
2020 has highlighted the heart of our community. Challenges brought on by floods, snowstorms, and a seemingly never-ending pandemic have showcased our resilience and empathy. I’m thankful for the support our residents are showing local businesses. These businesses have had the community’s back – now it’s our chance to return the favor. Keep eating local by ordering takeout or bundling up and eating outdoors. Keep shopping local safely by masking up and spacing out, using curbside pickup or online ordering.
This is the season of reflecting, connecting and giving. Many local nonprofits and community organizations cannot utilize their traditional fundraising models – and so also need our help more than ever. These organizations are making virtual donations easy. I encourage those who can, to also Donate Local. It can be as easy as a text or a mouse click.
From myself, City Staff and our Councilmembers, Happy Thanksgiving North Bend.
