This week, the North Bend City Council approved two contracts that will bring improvements to downtown sidewalks on 2nd Street and pavement on Park Street. Both projects are identified in the City’s Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).
The City’s 2020 Pavement Condition Index (PCI) study identified Park Street between Bendigo Blvd and the new roundabout on North Bend Way as a high priority for overlay as this section of roadway has experienced increased traffic in recent years.
The Park Street Overlay project will install approximately 1,700 linear feet of full width overlay. Design and construction will be coordinated with the Cade Vue Townhome project on the east end of Park Street that is slated to begin this year.
The project also includes lane configuration and channelization that when complete will create a separate left/thru lane and right turn lane on westbound Park Street. Funding comes from the City’s Streets Overlay Fund. Following design completion, construction is anticipated in late August or September 2021.
The 2nd Street Sidewalk Improvement Project will replace portions of sidewalks on both sides of 2nd Street between Ballarat Ave and Bendigo Blvd, as well as replace the storm drainage system, watermain, curbs and gutters. It also includes reconstruction or overlay of the adjacent roadway.
A portion of the project’s funding comes from a $287,000 King County Community Development Block Grant, with the remainder funded by the City’s Water, Storm and Streets Capital Funds, and the Streets Overlay Fund.
Project design will be completed in 2021, with construction scheduled for 2022.
