As part of a two-year Citywide Sidewalk Reinvestment Program, on April 6th, the North Bend City Council awarded a contract for the 2021 Annual Sidewalk Repair Project to Accord Contractors, LLC.

City Council budgeted $178,000 to the Sidewalk Reinvestment Program in 2021 and $150,000 in 2022 as part of the City’s approved 2021-22 Biennial Budget.

This year’s funding will be solely focused on repairs in the Forster Woods neighborhood, which was determined to be the highest priority area following a citywide sidewalk evaluation.

The project is tentatively scheduled to begin on Monday, April 19th and includes the removal of numerous street trees, stump grinding, and sidewalk/driveway removal and replacement work.

Contractor crews shall be responsible for traffic control. Residents can expect minor traffic delays while crews remove trees in the coming weeks.

No new street trees will be planted, as it was determined that the neighborhood landscape strips were too narrow for tree roots. Replanting would cause similar pedestrian trip hazards and require additional sidewalk repairs in the future.

Community members with  comments or questions can contact Tom Mohr, PE, Deputy Public Works Director at TMOHR@NORTHBENDWA.GOV.
