Portion of Reinig Road to Close this Summer for Snoqualmie River Revetment Repair Project

damaged areas to repair along reinig

King County will launch the Reinig Road Revetment Repair Project in mid-June, which will require an approximate 3-month closure of Reinig Road between SE 81st Street and 428th Ave SE in unincorporated King County near Three Forks Park.

The project will rebuild roughly 775 feet of revetment along the Snoqualmie River to repair four damaged areas. Additionally, a series of four log structures will be installed to shift Snoqualmie River high flows away from the riverbank.

The project will improve riverbank stability, roadway integrity, increase resilience to river scour and erosion, accommodate future changes to the river channel, and provide a longer functional lifespan of the revetment.

Project construction is anticipated for June 15th through October 30th. To improve safety and increase construction efficiency, Reinig Road will be closed in both directions near the project site. The westbound lane, though, will reopen by September 6th. Local access for emergency vehicles and residents of this stretch of Reinig Road will be provided.  The detour route (see below) will take drivers through North Bend.

The Reinig Road Revetment was originally constructed in 1966 to protect the roadway from erosion, but it now also protects power lines and a water supply pipeline. During Snoqualmie River flood events, high flows have undermined the revetment and stripped away large rock protection which has left the riverbank exposed to erosion.
