Habitat for Humanity Officially Launches New North Bend Community: Taylor Town

Rob HH event

On Tuesday, September 28, 2021, Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King & Kittitas Counties representatives, along with elected State and City officials, gathered in downtown North Bend to officially launch the organization’s newest community: Taylor Town.

When complete, the new North Bend affordable housing community located at 250 E. 2nd Street will have seven townhomes, each with approximately 1,250 sq. feet, 3 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms.

The  new community is named in honor of the property’s former owner, George Krsak, who donated the property to Habitat for Humanity. Mr. Krsak was a masonry and brick layer who lived in the Spokane suburb of Taylor before relocating to North Bend.

In today’s real estate environment, with escalating home and land prices, Habitat for Humanity said bringing affordable housing to deserving families is most often made possible by  land donations and community support. In addition to the Krsak land donation, the City waived and reduced impact fees in support of the project.

During Tuesday’s Taylor Town launch, Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King & Kittitas Counties CEO Brett D’Antonio thanked both the Krsak family and the City of North Bend for its support to help bring these new homes to families who thought home ownership might be out of their reach.

Mayor McFarland commented, “It’s been a longstanding goal of mine and the City Council to bring affordable housing options to the City of North Bend. We are thrilled that seven deserving families will soon call our community home.”

Habitat for Humanity is currently finishing sitework for the project and anticipates beginning the home building process in the next two months.  The organization relies on volunteers for home construction, including the help the future Taylor Town homeowners and the  surrounding community.

North Bend residents and organizations interested in helping with the Taylor Town build are encouraged to contact Alex Wyatt at alex.wyatt@habitatskc.org.
