Garbage/Recycling Collections Canceled Jan. 13-14, Drop-off Site Available at Torguson Park

Due to high demand for Thursday's garbage drop-off event at Torguson Park, we regret that we will have to stop the event at 3PM. The Torguson drop-off location will operate again on Friday, January 14, 2022 from approximately 9AM - 3PM for North Bend residents ONLY. If demand is high again, the event may have to close early.  Additionally, there will be no at home garbage pickups offered on January 14th as Public Works crews will be assisting at the Torguson drop-off event. The City is continuing discussions with Republic Services with the goal to provide missed customers service ASAP. Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available from Republic Services. Thank you for your patience.

Republic Services has informed the City of North Bend that it will not be able to service customers on, January 13-14, 2022, due to an ongoing, temporary work stoppage/strike led by out of state union members.

The City and Republic’s goal is to ensure that customers missed this week receive solid waste collection as soon as possible. Until those pick-ups can resume, the City has coordinated with Republic to provide collection containers at Torguson Park for customers to drop bagged garbage.

Dumpsters will be available at Torguson Park, 750 E. North Bend Way, from approximately 9AM to 4:30PM, Thursday, January 13, 2022. This will be a staffed event, with Republic Services employees on-site to assist in unloading customers’ vehicles.  Please wear masks when exiting vehicles to protect the health of Republic Services employees.

This drop-off location is for bagged residential household garbage only; no oversized items allowed. Additionally, please bring your North Bend residence identification. Customers who cannot make the drop-off event may put out extra materials on their next scheduled collection day at no charge.

City staff will provide traffic control in the park today to prevent vehicles from backing up onto North Bend Way, and will be closing the park entry at 4:30PM when the drop-off event closes.

The City is asking neighbors to help neighbors until normal collections resume. Please check in with the elderly, disabled or those who simply just cannot access the City drop-off site and if possible, assist in transporting materials to the event.

As a community service  for those who cannot access today’s event (e.g., elderly, disabled, or in Covid isolation) and do not have friends/neighbors to transport materials to the drop-off location, the City’s Public Works Dept. will come to private residences located in the City limits to collect bagged garbage. No oversized items are allowed - only bagged household trash please.

If you live within the North Bend City limits, cannot access today’s event (due to above listed reasons) and your neighbors cannot help deliver bagged trash for you, please call or text your address to 425.736.1433 by 3:30PM. Although the City is pleased to provide this community service, we have limited staffing. As such, this collection service is limited to City residents who are elderly, disabled or in Covid isolation.

City staff will also be in discussions today with Republic Services to determine if another drop-off event is needed in the coming days.

Thank you for your patience during this unexpected service disruption. With weeks of missed collections caused by recent snowstorms, we know this latest service cancellation has caused a hardship for many North Bend residents.

The City will provide ongoing updates as more information becomes available from Republic Services.

Please visit the North Bend Republic Services website for additional info at Republic Services can also be contacted at 206-682-9730 for residential customer service and 206-682-3037 for commercial customer service.
