This spring, the Arbor Day Foundation recognized North Bend as a 2021 Tree City USA in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management.

North Bend achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting each of the program’s four requirements:

  • A tree board or department
  • A tree care ordinance
  • An annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita
  • An Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

As North Bend passes its 11th consecutive year of achieving this recognition, Mike McCarty, AICP, Senior Planner, shared “Trees form a critical component of North Bend’s character and identity.  We are honored to once again be recognized as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation.” The City’s work in preserving trees and taking care of natural resources is twofold, he said. “We continue to plan in and work for a growing valley, while also implementing thoughtful policies that nurture and protect our trees, an asset our community deeply values.”

The Arbor Day Foundation is a million-member nonprofit conservation and education organization with the mission to inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. The Foundation partners with the US Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters, with a combined network of more then 3,600 Tree City USA communities.
