The NE 6th Street Watermain Replacement and Roadway Repair project is set to begin construction Monday, May 2nd, 2022. Work will begin at the intersection of NE 6th Street and Ballarat Avenue and will continue east. A portion of the project includes work on Janet Avenue, Orchard Avenue, Merritt Avenue, and Thrasher Avenue, south of NE 6th Street.
The NE 6th Street project will help tackle both street repair and contribute to goals in the City’s Water System Plan (WSP) by replacing an aging watermain that has lasted beyond its useful life. This work will continue to reduce water distribution system leakage.
Contractor crews from D&G Backhoe will be performing watermain replacement work first, with roadway repair work immediately following. Traffic control throughout the project will also be managed by D&G Backhoe.
Traffic impacts are expected to be minimal, other than intermittent delays due to a lane reduction when the contractor is at the intersection of Ballarat Avenue and NE 6th Street. While this work is occurring, traffic will be reduced to one lane, with contractor flaggers alternating traffic from each direction. Drivers can expect to see clearly displayed signage throughout the project.
Water shutoffs will be minimized as much as possible, but when they do occur, residents can expect them Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Effected residents will be notified via door hangers placed at entrances to homes 72 hours in advance of any water shutoff. Shutoffs typically do not take more than a few hours. Crews will work diligently to complete work quickly, returning water service to homes in the vicinity of the project.
Construction is anticipated to be complete by July 29th, 2022. The schedule is weather dependent. More information will be released as the project progresses. Questions can be emailed to Tom Mohr, PE, Deputy Public Works Director, at TMohr@northbendwa.gov.
The City appreciates residents’ patience and understanding during construction.
