Happy [almost] Memorial Day North Bend and welcome to the newest edition of the Weekly Recap. It seems May has flown by – so we hope you enjoy the upcoming extended holiday weekend with family and friends. If you’re hitting the road over the long weekend, bring your patience as traffic is predicted to be heavy. As always, remember to click the linked headlines below to read full news releases and posts.

You’re Invited to the Memorial Day Service at the North Bend Veterans Memorial: The Snoqualmie American Legion Post 79 is honoring our Veteran heroes with a Memorial Day Service at the North Bend Veterans Memorial on Monday, May 30th.  The service begins at 1 p.m.

The North Bend Veterans Memorial is located at North Bend City Hall (920 SE Cedar Falls Way), and was created by the American Legion Post 79, the Legion Auxiliary Unit 79 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3436, in partnership with the City of North Bend, the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe and the Snoqualmie Casino. Trailhead Direct Returns to North Bend on Memorial Day Weekend: Trailhead Direct is returning to North Bend, beginning Saturday, May 28th, just in time for Memorial Day weekend. Service will run Saturdays and Sundays through September 11th, with additional service on Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.

Heavy Traffic Forecast for North Bend on Memorial Day: Traffic conditions through North Bend are anticipated to be severe on Monday, May 30th Memorial Day, likely worse between noon and 6:00 p.m. as westbound I-90 drivers may take Exits 34 and 32 to avoid an existing one-lane closure on westbound I-90, in between exits 32 and 31 (Milepost 31.5). The City anticipates the following locations to be the hardest hit:

  • Westbound North Bend Way
  • Westbound Cedar Falls Way
  • Westbound Park Street

Collaborative Grant Work for Future Meadowbrook Farm Park Prairie Loop Trail The Cities of North Bend and Snoqualmie, the Si View Metropolitan Park District, and the Meadowbrook Farm Preservation Association are collectively planning for the future Baqwab Prairie Loop Trail at Meadowbrook Farm Park. The City of North Bend secured a $500,000 Parks Capital Grant from King County for the project, and the parties are jointly applying for a 2022 Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program grant to fund the remainder. The trail will provide access through some of the more remote portions of Meadowbrook Farm, where one can experience the remnants of the original Baqwab Prairie. Baqwab is the Lushootseed name for the prairie that has existed here for thousands of years.

Information Resource for Families Affected by the Nation-Wide Infant Formula Shortage: Public Health - Seattle & King County is working one-on-one with parents to help them access formula throughout the region. This can include changing the participant’s benefits over the phone in real time (at the moment of the phone call) to match what is currently available in their local store. If the infant’s current formula type is not available, they work with the parents and their physicians to find a different brand of formula to meet their infant’s needs. Learn more HERE.

COVID-19 Vaccine Locations and an Update: Read updated information from Seattle-King County Public Health about COVID-19 boosters for 5 to 11 year-olds HERE. Find an updated list of vaccination locations HERE.
