North Bend Weekly Recap: yardwaste recycling, solid waste contract update, Citizens Academy and more

Yardwaste Recycling Program returns on Saturday: The 2023 North Bend Yardwaste Recycling program begins March 25th. The annual recycling program is open to North Bend residents and property owners on select Saturdays, from March through October, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the North Bend Public Works building, located at 1155 E North Bend Way.

New contract for solid waste and recycling services will receive second reading at the April 4 City Council meeting: At the March 21st North Bend City Council meeting, Council passed an amendment to the Motion Authorizing a Contract for Solid Waste and Recycling Collection Services, to hear a second reading at the April 4th City Council meeting. The City of North Bend’s current solid waste collection contract with Republic Services expires on March 31, 2024. During the past year, the City and its consultant, Epicenter Services, conducted a competitive procurement process, having received submissions from Recology, Republic Services, and Waste Management. Congrats to North Bend’s Citizens Academy graduates: Graduates of the City of North Bend’s inaugural Citizens Academy were honored at the March 21st City Council meeting! Following the meeting, graduates met up with City Engineer Don Deberg, WWTP Manager Jeff Leamon, Public Works Director Mark Rigos, and Councilmember Miller for a tour of the Wastewater Treatment Plant. This $35m+, multi-year improvement is a long-term investment in North Bend’s critical infrastructure. Check out photos from the tour HERE.

ICYMI: On Tuesday, Council, staff, and community met for the March 21st City Council Meeting. Topics included 2023 North Bend Citizens Academy graduates, a presentation on Snoqualmie Valley Health, a Public Hearing regarding the Ordinance Adopting NBMC 3.78 Multi-Family Tax Exemption Program, and a Motion Authorizing a Contract for Solid Waste and Recycling Services.

A great way to help your community: Join the Human Services Task Force! The City is seeking to appoint three to five residents to serve on the Human Services Task Force. Members will advise the mayor on a variety of matters relating to the City’s biennial Human Services grant funding program. Residents wishing to apply for this position should write a letter that states their interest and what they feel they will contribute to the task force. Please email your letter to Administrative Services Director Lisa Escobar, lescobar@northbendwa.gov, or via mail, to the North Bend City Hall, attention to Lisa Escobar: 920 SE Cedar Falls Way.
