North Bend City Council approves 2024 – 2029 Transportation Improvement Plan

TIP In North Bend

On June 20, 2023, the North Bend City Council voted unanimously to approve a resolution adopting the 2024 through 2029 Six-Year Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP), following the May 16 Public Hearing, which was continued on June 20.

The TIP lays out a plan for improving and maintaining the City’s multi-modal transportation infrastructure and prioritizes projects by need and availability of funds. All cities, towns, and counties are required to develop and adopt a Six-Year TIP.

Highlights to anticipate include:

  • A roundabout at State Route (SR) 202 and Mt Si Boulevard will replace the current signalized intersection and add ADA-compliant ramps and walkways, creating safer, more accessible transportation for everyone. This improvement will provide easier access to and from the future Wyndham hotel and the North Bend Premium Outlet Mall as well.
  • A roundabout at the North Bend Way and SE Mt Si Road intersection will serve an increasing number of drivers on North Bend Way, and it will provide a safer exit off Mt Si Road for everyone, including hikers and unincorporated King County residents, adding additional ease for those turning left onto North Bend Way.
  • The South Fork Avenue Extension project will extend South Fork Avenue SW to West North Bend Way, providing an arterial level connection between North Bend Way and SR 202. The project will reduce traffic volumes and emissions impacts downtown, provide alternatives for truck traffic, increase pedestrian safety, and revitalize North Bend’s downtown shopping and dining experience.

Mayor McFarland commented, “The City’s commitment to connectivity and safety is reflected in all our transportation improvement projects. The Transportation Improvement Plan helps us to support and enhance our highly livable community.”

The City of North Bend reviews and updates its TIP each year following a public hearing, with a goal of adoption by July 1. See all projects included in the City’s Six-Year TIP HERE.
