Wildfire risk reduction and emergency preparation in North Bend

Emergency Awareness - Fire

With increased smoke in our region and evacuations for fires happening right now in Washington State, county, state, fire, and local law enforcement agencies are joining forces to spread awareness of emergency evacuation procedures and community wildfire mitigation practices.

Due to climate change, the risk of wildfires has spread to the west side of the Cascades. Once a rare occurrence, wildfires have now become an annual threat. Eastside Fire and Rescue, the King County Office of Emergency Management, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, and the King County Sheriff’s Office are working together to help our community be better prepared for wildfire evacuation.

"Ready, Set, Go!" is an evacuation plan that lists three levels of response, and how to act at each level when alerted by authorities.

Level 1: READY – Be aware of the danger in your area and start preparing to evacuate. Monitor local media and check on neighbors, update your GO! kit, check evacuation routes, prepare your home, and leave if you feel unsafe.

Level 2: SET – Be prepared for sudden evacuation. Ensure your evacuation checklist is complete, that your GO! kit is in your vehicle, monitor local media, and leave if you feel unsafe.

Level 3: GO – Leave now! Danger in your area. Follow directions from police or fire departments, and do not return home until officials have determined it is safe.

Learn more about the Ready, Set, Go! plan by visiting King County’s Emergency Management Fire Hazards webpage.

Wildfire Safe Eastside Home Assessment Program: you can make a difference in your neighborhood.

You can effectively reduce your home and structures’ ignition potential before a wildfire. With the goal of promoting safety, preparedness, and resilience, the Wildfire Safe Eastside – Home Assessment Program provides a systematic method for assessing home and structure ignition potential during a wildfire event. Learn more and schedule your home assessment by visiting Eastside Fire and Rescue’s Wildfire Safe Eastside webpage.
