Temporary but strong odors likely as the Wastewater Treatment Plant undergoes Phase 2 operation

WWTP Update, 09.07.23

On Thursday, September 7, the City of North Bend Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) will undergo an important operation, as part of Phase 2 of the WWTP High Priority Improvements Project.

During this time, crews will transfer the contents of the existing aeration basin to the new aeration basin. This operation will likely result in unusually strong odors emanating from the plant. City and contractor crews will work together to eliminate the source of the odors as quickly as possible.

The City appreciates residents’ and business owners’ patience and understanding as work on this necessary infrastructure improvement project continues. Questions and concerns can be emailed to City Engineer Donald DeBerg, at ddeberg@northbendwa.gov.

Once complete, this critical two-phase project will add redundancy, improve employee safety, increase treatment and hydraulic capacities, replace aging facilities, and will add important environmental updates that protect the Snoqualmie River.
