Let fall begin! Help prevent localized flooding by clearing neighborhood storm drains and culverts

Keep storm drains and culverts clear 2023

City crews work hard to keep storm drains and culverts clear of leaves and other debris, but with thousands of these in North Bend, we could use your help. Fallen leaves pile up on storm drains on our streets, blocking rainwater from draining, which can lead to neighborhood flooding. Flooding can cause safety concerns and property damage.

Clear leaves from neighborhood storm drains

  • Check storm drains near your home or business and make sure they are free of debris.
  • Use a rake to remove debris from storm drains and gutters. Dispose of leaves and branches in your yard waste bin or make a compost pile.
  • Do not rake or blow leaves into the street. These clog up storm drains and the City’s street sweeper.
  • Trim low-hanging branches along your street frontage so the City’s street sweeper can have clear access to the face of the curb without damaging the equipment.
  • Never remove a grate from a storm drain. This does not unclog the drain and creates hazardous conditions.
  • Maintain gutters, downspouts, rain barrels & private culverts by keeping them clear, flowing and directed away from structures & hillsides.

Call the Public Works after-hours emergency contact # at (425) 736-7697 to report any major flooding or storm drain issues. For a house maintenance checklist and other timely tips as you prepare for winter weather, visit the Take Winter by Storm website: www.takewinterbystorm.org.
