National Weather Service issues a Flood Watch for Pacific Northwest

flood-prepare-2023

On Thursday, November 30, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Flood Watch for the Pacific Northwest. NWS predicts an active weather pattern that will continue with a series of frontal systems through December 6, bringing with it excessive rainfall that could cause river flooding, and may also lead to isolated residential and/or urban flooding. View the NWS Flood Watch winter weather advisory by visiting www.weather.gov/

For residents concerned about potential localized street flooding impacting their homes and businesses, the City's Public Works Facility has sand and sandbags available during regular business hours:

  • Monday through Thursday: 8:30 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday: 8 to 12 p.m.

Please enter through City Hall, located at 920 SE Cedar Falls Way. You may enter the Public Works parking lot, where you will find sand in a covered area and bags. Residents will need to fill bags themselves and provide their own shovels, but the materials are available free of charge.

For questions, please call Emergency Management Coordinator Erin Mitchell, at (425) 466-2991. You may also email the Emergency Operations team, at EM@northbendwa.gov

Stay on top of flood alerts by signing up for ALERT King County, a public information and emergency notification system that reaches citizens wherever they are and on any device. The City of North Bend encourages all residents to register for ALERT to receive important information about significant local events such as flooding or other emergency situations via telephone, text, and email. Learn more by visiting www.kingcounty.gov/depts/emergency-management/preparedness

You can help prevent localized street flooding as well by taking a look at catch basins adjacent to your own property. During all flood events, the City of North Bend is here to help. The City collaborates with King County’s Flood Control District, and as a member, it serves as a Sandbag Center year-round. For more information about this agreement, visit King County’s Sandbag Distribution website.
