Senator Brad Hawkins hosted the Mount Si High School Girls Cross Country team at the State Capitol on January 31. Senator Hawkins offered Resolution 8650 alongside Senator Mark Mullet who also represents North Bend.

Mayor Miller joined the senators, Coach Steven Crane, Athletic Director Jack Hill, representatives of the Snoqualmie Valley School District, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA), and parents at the Capitol this week, as they celebrated MSHS’s first-ever 4A State Cross Country Championship.

Senator Hawkins interviewed the team about this great accomplishment. The girls talked about perseverance and not giving up. One athlete noted that what kept her going through the race was her team. “I’m tired, but I’m going to finish for her,” she said when reflecting on her thoughts during the race.

“They really embody the best of student athletes,” Senator Hawkins said. Mayor Miller agreed. “An achievement of this nature takes an extraordinary level of commitment, strength and immense support for each other as teammates,” she said. “And this is why they are State Champions.”
