Recology King County will begin a new contract for City customers this spring

New contract for garbage_web

The City of North Bend is pleased to announce that, beginning April 1, 2024, Recology King County will begin a new contract for once-a-week garbage collection for City customers. This transition marks an exciting development in our community's efforts toward sustainable waste management practices.

Recology is an established provider serving 11 cities in the region. The decision to select Recology as the City’s new garbage collection provider follows a rigorous procurement process conducted in 2022 and facilitated by Epicenter Services, where Recology emerged as the preferred choice based on its solid performance in contract compliance, customer service, community outreach, and education.

Beginning April 1, new benefits for North Bend customers include:

  • Increased service requirements during labor interruptions, plus credit for services missed after the first week of service interruption
  • Inclement weather benefits such as customer credits when inclement weather issues persist for the same customers two or more consecutive weeks, garbage drop-off sites in North Bend if inclement weather lasts longer than one week, and free extra yard debris collection after a storm event
  • Free collection of unflocked, undecorated holiday trees
  • Discounted bulky item collection for appliances, mattresses, and furniture
  • Access to the Recology Store/Collection Center located in Gilman Village (317 NW Gilman Blvd in Issaquah). Residents can drop off hard-to-recycle items like Styrofoam and receive in-person customer service
  • Local call center that will be available seven days per week, with two-way texting for customers
  • New collection vehicles will provide more reliable service and lower emissions
  • Additional performance fees for unsatisfactory hauler performance
  • Additional recycling and composting educational outreach and promotion
  • A 12-year contract which translates to lower rates for customers
  • A cap at 5 percent on inflation-related annual adjustments

We appreciate the community's cooperation and patience during this transition period. For further inquiries or assistance, please visit Recology’s North Bend customer website for North Bend customers. Customers received a Welcome postcard in their mail in late January. In addition, Recology will share a detailed website with information for North Bend customers in February.

Together, we look forward to a successful partnership with Recology King County in advancing sustainable waste management practices and maintaining the cleanliness and beauty of our city.
