National Weather Service Has Issued a Weather Statement for Increased Landslide Threat

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties. Heavy rainfall through Tuesday will lead to an increased threat of landslides in Western Washington.

Soil moisture will remain at high levels across western Washington. Additional heavy rainfall of 1-2 inches for the lowlands and 2-4 inches for the mountains is expected through Tuesday night. This amount of rain will put extra pressure on soil instability, leading to an increased threat of landslides.

Areas above 5,000 feet in elevation will see mostly snow and not be affected.

For more information on landslides, visit the website for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources landslide geologic hazards at: https://www.dnr.wa.gov/programs-and-services/geology/geologic-hazards/landslides.

The King County Office of Emergency Management will continue to monitor and share information as warranted.
