National Weather Service Has Issued a Flood Watch Through Friday Afternoon

The Snoqualmie River has reached Flood Phase 2. It is likely that the river will reach Flood Phase 3 later tonight. There are 5 flood phases. 

The National Weather Service – Seattle has issued a flood watch through Friday afternoon.

* Portions of northwest Washington and west central Washington, including the following counties, in northwest Washington, Skagit and Whatcom. In west central Washington, King, Lewis, Pierce, Snohomish, and Thurston.

* A period of warming, rising snow levels, and heavy rain in the mountains will force sharp rises on the rivers flowing off the Cascades. 1 to 3 inches of rain have fallen in Cascade Mountains the last 24 hours and another 1 to 3 inches are expected into Friday afternoon. Locally heavier amounts are possible. Snow levels will rise to around 5,000 to 7,000 feet. Locally heavier amounts are possible. River flooding is possible as a result.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Heavy rainfall today into Friday will lead to an increased threat of landslides in Western Washington.
