The recent spread of the Coronavirus has impacted several states and communities across the country. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has been working with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as well as the Department of Health (DOH) at the State level to ensure the safety of all community members.
Recently, Sea Tac International Airport has been added to the list of 11 airports authorized to receive those traveling from China who may potentially be placed into quarantine.
The CDC has determined that the Washington State Patrol Fire Training Academy in North Bend has been designated as a quarantine management facility. Eastside Fire & Rescue is in contact with the Department of Health Emergency Operations Center to proactively plan to minimize any impacts to the communities we serve.
To address misinformation from the media, the Fire Training Academy is not located in the City of North Bend, in fact it is located at Mile Post 38. It is a secured and isolated facility. EF&R is a BLS first responder for the Training Academy and response precautions are underway to ensure the safety of our personnel.
The DOH confirmed this morning there are currently no patients being transported to or currently housed at the facility. The DOH has committed to communicate all future actions at the Fire Training Academy to ensure the information can be distributed to community members.
Eastside Fire & Rescue is committed to providing accurate real time information to staff and community members. The Department of Health and Eastside Fire & Rescue will work collaboratively to provide regular updates as information becomes available.
