Mayor Rob McFarland and City Councilmembers honored long-time community member, Beth Burrows, as the recipient of the 2019 Citizen of the Year award at the February 4th, 2020 City Council Meeting at City Hall.

In his presentation of the award, Mayor McFarland said he felt fortunate to have the honor of announcing Burrows as this year’s recipient as he has known her for many years; dating back to when their daughters were Brownies in Girl Scouts together.
“Through the subsequent years, I have had the pleasure of observing and interacting with her through various events and projects benefitting our community, getting a true sense of her commitment,” he added.Burrows has made numerous contributions in the 30 years she has lived in North Bend.
Among volunteering for many organizations, she also has a passion for historic preservation and economic development. She is the founder of North Bend Art & Industry, owner of North Bend Theatre and the current president of the North Bend Downtown Foundation. In this capacity, she chairs several community events, including Sip, Suds & Si, Trick-or-Treat Street and Holly Days.
“I’m so overwhelmed and grateful for receiving this award,” Burrows said after being named Citizen of they Year. “I’m thinking of the hundreds of people in our town who make this a great place to live and I’m accepting this award on their behalf.”
Burrows received several nominations for this award. In her nomination email, SnoValley Chamber Director, Kelly Coughlin, wrote “On top of everything else, Beth is one of the greatest advocates for North Bend and does all of this as a volunteer. To me, she is a hero I desperately want to aspire to be like.”
