[ARCHIVED] Help Prevent Wildfires: Outdoor Recreational Fire Safety Tips

In an effort to be a Wildfire Resilient Community, the City of North Bend is currently working to reduce wildfire risks via resident education and mitigation methods like property maintenance that help create defensible spaces around a home and/or business perimeter. [See below flier for tips to create a defensible space around your property.]

A quick reminder that Eastside Fire & Rescue has issued their Annual Burn Moratorium that runs from June 15th through September 30th.  Recreational fires are not recommended at this time due to the extreme dry weather in our area and no rain in site.   However, if you are going to have a recreational fire, it is more important than ever to use safety precautions.

Rules for Recreational Burning

  • Fires must not exceed three feet in diameter or two feet high.
  • Only Charcoal, dried firewood or manufactured fire logs may be used.  It is illegal to burn anything else.
  • Recreational fires must be a minimum of 25 feet from a structure.
  • A person, capable of extinguishing the fire, must always attend it.  The fire must be extinguished before leaving it.
  • Recreational fires are prohibited during air-quality burn bans and fire safety burn bans.  Check the link  for intermittent air quality related burn bans imposed by Puget Sound Clean Air.
  • It is ALWAYS ILLEGAL to smoke out your neighbor.  If smoke from your fire bothers you neighbors, damages their property, or otherwise causes a nuisance, you must immediately put it out.

RESIDENTIAL BURNING OF MATERIAL ORIGINATING ON ONE’S PROPERTY IS CURRENTLY BANNED IN KING COUNTY.
