Mayor Rob McFarland is proud to proclaim June as Pride Month in North Bend. The City recognizes how important it is for people in our community to feel safe, valued, empowered, and supported by their peers and community leaders, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression.
June is celebrated as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month nationwide to commemorate the Stonewall Uprising in New York, which occurred in June 1969 and is considered the beginning of the LGBTQIA+ civil rights movement. Pride Month in North Bend raises awareness of the prejudice and discrimination still facing members of the LGBTQIA+ community. It also highlights the fact that everyone is entitled to equal rights freely granted to all Americans regardless of race, religion, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
